Dorothy J. Rasmussen, 91
Dorothy J. Rasmussen, age 91, of Antigo, died December 31, 2014, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Dorothy was born July 20, 1923 to the late Donald and Selma (Olsen) Fish in Elcho.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Wayne Rasmussen on May 1, 1954 at Elcho Congregational Church. Wayne preceded her in death on February 10, 1967.
She was a graduate of Elcho High School class of 1941 and went on to nurses training at St. Paul Mounds Midway School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse. Early in her career she lived and worked in Missoula, MT. She returned to the area, working for Dr. Dailey in Elcho and then Langlade Hospital for 22 years. She continued to work at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center after her retirement.
She was a longtime member of Faith United Church of Christ, where she enjoyed serving her church volunteering for many church activities and serving on various church boards.
Dorothy enjoyed hiking, canoeing, bird watching, cross-country skiing and the outdoors. She took pleasure in time spent at the cabin at Otter Lake visiting with family and friends, picking blackberries, roasting marshmallows, and calling the loons. She was very active in the Antigo community, volunteering for many years with meals on wheels and enjoying concerts as a member of the Antigo Music Association. She was a big supporter of the Antigo schools, frequently attending concerts and sporting events. She rarely missed a Concert in the Park event in the summer. Dorothy was never one to sit idle and kept busy crocheting, knitting, playing cards, doing puzzles, and reading. She was a kind and loyal friend always willing to drive friends to appointments, take them out for lunch, or stop by to visit. She was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Christine (Carl) Roenz of Manawa, Kathy Rasmussen of Weston, a son Carl (Nancy) Rasmussen of Eau Claire; 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, Rebecca (Tony) Wilhelm and their son Joshua, Carl (Elizabeth) Roenz and their daughter Grace, Daniel Roenz and special friend Candice Milligan, and Geoffrey and Bryce Rasmussen; 2 sisters, Marjorie (Bill) Bussert of Elcho, Ruth (Ralph) Litterst of Starkville, MS; and 2 brothers, Edward Fish of Omaha, NE and Rodney (Nilah) Visser of Elcho.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-father Nick Visser and brother Carl Visser.
