Haley Marie “Jackie” Baraniak passed away at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a brief illness on Tuesday, 6 January 2015. Jackie was the daughter of James “Newton” and Minta (Bowling) Arrowood, and with her large family of origin, enjoyed her formative years in the Kent area of northeastern Langlade County.
After moving to Antigo, she met and married John “Jack” Baraniak on 29 May 1954; the couple spent fifty-six years of married life together until Jack’s death four years ago. Together Jack and Jackie raised four children, David, Gina, Teresa and Jim. All of Jack and Jackie’s efforts in employment and recreation were spent to support the welfare of their children. In the 1970’s Jackie served as a waitress and hostess at Antigo supper clubs; in the 1980’s and 90’s she entered the world of retail, having served as manager of Jessica’s Hallmark Shop during the store’s entire existence.
In her retirement, Jackie spent much time enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. With them she enjoyed partaking in a variety of “100%” crossword puzzles, card and board games, competing with others over television gameshows, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and conversing on a variety of topics especially pertaining to bible stories and her cherished Catholic spirituality.
Jackie is survived by her four children, David (Marilyn) Baraniak of Antigo, Gina (Tim) Koeppel of Antigo, Teresa (Joey) Zingale of Minocqua, and Father Jim Baraniak of DePere; her eight grandchildren Jolynn (Jerome) Jones, Nathan (Kristin) Koeppel, Jessica (Mike) Bostwick, Haley Baraniak, Nicole Koeppel (and special friend Patrick Ferry), David Kelly, Adam Koeppel and Katherine Zingale; and six great-grandchildren Jerome “JJ” Jones, Keaton Bostwick, Juliahna Jones, Ethan Koeppel, Zach Koeppel and Johanna Jones. Jackie is further survived by sisters in-law Juanita Arrowood, Esther Rolo, Betty Kielcheski, and Leona Baraniak. Preceding Jackie in death are her parents, Newton and Minta; husband, Jack; brothers Nathan, Cecil, George and Dan; and sisters Rachel and Patsy.
Funeral services for Jackie Baraniak include visitation at Bradley Funeral Home from 12:00 PM until 2:30 PM on Friday, 9 January 2015 and a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at Ss. Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church at 3:00 PM with her son, the Very Reverend James T. Baraniak, O. Praem., Prior of Saint Norbert Abbey, presiding, and the Right Reverend Gary J. Neville, O. Praem., Abbot of Saint Norbert Abbey, offering the final commendation.
