Donations Sought for Tennis Court Resurfacing Project
The Antigo Area Tennis for Life Committee has launched a fund raising campaign to resurface the Elleson Tennis Courts at Antigo High School. The group is looking for a total campaign of raising $60,000 by May 1, 2015, to complete the project this year.
It has been 10 years since the committee undertook the original fund raising effort to build the courts, which were completed and dedicated in 2006. Through the years, the game of tennis has grown in Antigo. A United States Tennis Association program has introduced many young people to the sport. This is the ninth year with both girls and boys high school and middle school teams using the courts, along with continuing the Adult Recreation Tennis League. Also, anyone in the community has free access to the courts.
At this point, weather elements have taken their toll on the courts. After virtually no maintenance expense over the last nine years, the time has come for resurfacing and fixing a crack that runs across two of the courts.
The Unified School District of Antigo (USDA) has dedicated $10,000 to the fund raising efforts. The Antigo Area Tennis for Life Committee is seeking additional contributions from the community. Tax deductible donations can be made payable to USDA Foundation/Resurface Tennis, 120 S. Dorr St., Antigo, WI 54409.
