Antigo First, Inc. asking for help to enhance look of Downtown Antigo

During their 5th Avenue Enhancement planning meetings, the Antigo First committee determined that hanging planters would greatly improve the appearance of the downtown Antigo corridor. This effort coincides with a 2015 City project to remove some mid-block bump-outs, which will create additional parking for downtown businesses.

Hanging baskets will be more visible to both the visitors walking the downtown sidewalks and to those traveling the corridor. Getting the planters off the ground will not only enhance the visibility of the planters, but will also lead to reduced impact to the flower beds from road salt.

Antigo First plans to install 47 hanging planters to be distributed along the downtown corridor, including 5th Avenue (Field Street to Lincoln Street), 6th Avenue (Edison Street to Field Street), and Field Street (5th Avenue to 6th Avenue).

The group has secured the traditional funding and commitment towards the new program from the City. Several larger pledges aimed to kick-start fundraising are already in place. Other efforts such as the Adopt-a-Planter Program are being developed.

For each adoption, a dedication option will be displayed on a respective light pole. The adoption fee is one planter at $100 per year for 3 years, a $300 total. For information on how to adopt a planter, please contact Antigo First, Inc. at [email protected]
