In 1994, Pete and Pam Augustyn prayed for a family business, and when they visited a neighboring hydroponic greenhouse, they knew their prayers had been answered. Canopy Gardens began as a small family business in 1995 and grew, just like the plants grow every year. They started with four bays, and through two additions, grew to a total of 11 bays. This year, they are celebrating their 20^th anniversary.

Canopy Gardens’ produce is environmentally safe, fresh, locally grown and tastes great. They grow tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, lettuce and basil. All vegetables are grown in their greenhouse. No pesticides are used on any of the plants.

Tomatoes are the main focus at Canopy Gardens. The tomatoes are grown in volcanic rock versus dirt.  This allows the tomatoes to receive all the nutrients they need while taking up less space and using less water and fertilizer.

Canopy Gardens began making salsas from their ripe tomatoes in 2011. The salsa is available in three varieties: mild, medium, and habanero. Each flavor is available in 16 oz. jars and may be purchased at Natural Living, Butch’s, Copps or Lakeside Market in Antigo, Roundy’s Stores in Wausau, and Dane County Farmers’ Market in Madison. Their fresh produce can also be found at most local grocery stores.
