Dorothy Claire Boothby, 91

Dorothy Claire Boothby, of Antigo, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Stoney River Rehabilitation Center. She was 91 years old. She was born on April 23, 1923 in Eureka, Cali., a daughter of the late Harold and Xuma (Jensen) Sawyer. She married Elden Lord Boothby Sr. on December 31, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2005.

She was a graduate of Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles, CA. Mrs. Boothby was one of the first three females ever employed by Western Airlines as a radio operator/air traffic controller. She was the manager of the Carolina Motor Club in Greenville, South Carolina and manager of Woodside Travel Service in Columbia, North Carolina.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a pioneer in Genealogy research and was a highly respected consultant throughout the country.

She loved collecting antique dolls, participating in doll shows and selling dolls online all over the world.

She will be remembered for her generosity. She was proud to sponsor the entire team uniforms for the Aniwa Orioles little league baseball team, teach Sunday school and support the 4-H market sale by buying lambs every year to take home as pets. She was also a big supporter of The Palm Ministry in the Philippines that feeds hungry children.

She loved gardening and flowers.

Survivors include three daughters, Angela (Anthony) Nida of New Orleans, LA, Debralee (Thomas) Mifflin of Antigo and Terry (Robert) Wahl of Springfield, VA; a son, Elden Lord (Rebecca) Boothby Jr. of Stafford, VA; a son-in-law, Bernard VanCamp of Springfield, VA; 10 grandchildren, Nancy, Caren, John, Jason, Casey, Margaret, Elisabeth, Dorothy, Robert and Jack; great-grandchildren, Kaileigh, Harrison, Jack, Reed, Max, Jane, Christopher and Aurora.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane VanCamp; two sisters, Jean Himes and Merle Woodhead; and a nephew, Arnold Woodhead.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 6 at 1 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home in Fairfax, Virginia. Burial will take place at Fairfax Memorial Park Cemetery.
