OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Wisconsin DNR recently awarded Moose Lake and it’s sponsoring group, the Friends of Moose Lake (FOML), a $22,954.00 Comprehensive Lake Management Plan Grant for 2015. Examples of project goals include comparison of existing data to newly-collected physical, biological and social data and current status of the lake’s fish population.
Bill Upton, FOML’s Lake Management Planning Committee chair, met with his committee and plan administrator, Carolyn Scholl, of Water Ways, LLC, to discuss the group’s next steps.
Moose Lake is a 113 acre lake located in Langlade County. It has a maximum depth of 20 feet. Visitors have access to the lake from public boat landings. Fish include Perch, Blue Gills, Crappies, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike and Trout.** It is a favorite spot for area fishermen, kayakers, canoeists and pontoons who share the lake with eagles, loon, osprey and ducks. Moose Lake County Park and its trails border the lake offering great hiking, snowshoeing and areas to picnic and enjoy nature.
Efforts will “kick off” May 16th at the group’s annual meeting with distribution of a Lake User Survey. Additional surveys will be mailed to lake residents and property owners, FOML members and distributed at the Moose Lake Boat Launch. Fishermen and lake enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to complete the survey and drop them off at the box provided at the launch.
Carolyn Scholl will give an overview of the lake management plan grant requirements at the FOML Annual Meeting on Saturday, May 16, 1:00 at the Norwood Town Hall in Phlox. In addition, John Preuss, Langlade County’s Lumberjack Aquatic Invasives Coordinator will present info on invasive species. The public is invited to attend.
