Petie was born on February 7, 1923 to the late Edward Hanke and Ida (Tomack) Hanke in the Antigo area.

On September 8, 1962 she was united in marriage to Theodore Haig at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Theodore preceded her in death in 2009.

Petie attended grade school in the Town of Polar and graduated in 1941 from the Antigo High School. She was employed in the Customer Service Department at Montgomery Wards at the corner of 5th and Edison Street during the 1950’s and early 1960’s. Petie worked seasonally at the Canning Company, she did home child care and also cared for elderly.

Petie was a member of the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, helping prepare meals for weddings, funerals and church bazaars.

Petie loved to bake pastries and cakes to have on hand for serving her visitors, as well as reading the Antigo Daily Journal and spending time with her pets.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Virginia Passehl of Antigo, as well as many nephews, nieces and her special friend and guardian, Sarah Waukau.

In addition to her parents, Petie was preceded in death by her husband Theodore, a brother Elmer Hanke, a sister Alma “Dorothy” Randl.

A service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service. Reverend Donald Engebretson will officiate. Interment will take place at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Polar following the service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in Petie’s name.
