Don’t head out of town for the Fourth of July before stopping by downtown Wausau this Thursday night to check out Wausau River District’s next First Thursdays event: Terrific Transportation.
The first edition of Wausau River District’s new retail event, First Thursdays, was a huge hit. On June 4, between 5 and 8 p.m., over 2,000 people hit the streets downtown for Wausau’s newest tradition. Musicians, magicians and dancers volunteered their time and talents, filling the streets with an amazing energy and vibrancy. First Thursdays is back in a big way for July’s theme: Terrific Transportation!
First Thursdays: Terrific Transportation will take place in downtown Wausau from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2. Eighteen different local musicians and bands will line the streets, including many who participated in June’s Throwback Thursday event.
A special Segway experience will also be set up on Fourth Street. Attendees can sign up for a time slot to ride a Segway for $15. A $5 discount is offered to anyone who makes a purchase from a participating business on Thursday and shows the receipt while purchasing a ticket.
Attendees can also visit a bike and pedestrian information booth at the First American Plaza to learn more about safe biking, walk and driving downtown. If attendees answer three questions about downtown safety, they will receive a “Ride the River” ticket which will list special promotions to participating Wausau River District businesses. Only those with “Ride the River” tickets will be given the special deals.
All participating businesses will have their own transportation-related promotions or activities, making each stop unique. On the West side of the river, River District Antiques will be holding a classic car show and the D.C. Everest jazz band will be performing.
First Thursdays is Wausau’s newest shopping experience. Developed by local business owners who sought to enhance the downtown shopping experience, the goal of the event is to elevate the downtown shopping experience by creating an enjoyable atmosphere filled with music and entertainment while promoting the unique River District stores.
To that end, First Thursdays features different entertainment each month that matches the theme as well as later and uniform shopping hours during the event. In addition, each month will feature live local music and a free drawing for a $50 gift certificate to one of the thirty-plus participating business. You love downtown on Wednesdays, now try us on First Thursdays for merchandise, music and more!
