Verna Chervenka, of Antigo, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at Care Partners Assisted Living under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 94 years old.
She was born Jan. 3, 1921 in the Town of Ackley, daughter of the late John and Margaret (Prasalowicz) Bera. She graduated from Antigo High School in 1937. She married Ralph Kahl, and they later divorced. She married Fred Chervenka, Jr. on March 24, 1975, and he preceded her in death in 2007.
Mrs. Chervenka was employed at Tesch’s Supper Club, Antigo Daily Journal, Cutlass Motor Lodge, and also worked in office equipment sales for Berner Brothers.
She was a member of SS. Mary and Hyacinth Catholic Church, and belonged to the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Ron (Barbara) Kahl of Burlington, WI; 3 grandchildren, Tracy Kahl, Kelly (Kim) Kahl), and Corey (Kristina) Kahl; 4 great-grandchildren, Kyle, Thomas, Mitchell, and Shane Kahl; 6 sisters-in-law, Beverly Bera of Chicago, Rita Bera of Greenfield, Kathy Bera of Little Chute, Dera Wilson of Chicago, Delores Besler of Chicago, and Eleanor Savola of Chicago; a brother-in-law, Ed Stasek of Antigo; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Kahl; 10 brothers, Edward, Peter, Anton, Joe, George, Frank, James, Raymond, Carl, and Leo; 2 sisters, Agnes Bua, and Martha Stasek; and a daughter-in-law, Rosie Kahl.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the service at Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
