American Red Cross responds to fire at transitional hotel in Wausau

The local American Red Cross is responding to a fire at the 2101 Grand Avenue, Wausau facility which is a transitional hotel. The 16-unit facility houses 26-people and all will be displaced.  At this hour, we are providing dinner for the residents and we are in the process of determining the shelter location.

Once the shelter opens, guests will be notified of its location.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other personal hygiene items.

American Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge, a gift made possible by generous donations and the work of trained volunteers.

About the American Red Cross
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation’s blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission. The Wisconsin Region serves 5.8 million people across Wisconsin and Houston County Minnesota.  For more information, please visit redcross.org, follow our statewide blog at redcrosswisnews.org and follow us on Twitter @redcrosswis
