Elizabeth, (Bette), Diercks, 92, of Antigo, died Sunday, August 16, 2015 at Evergreen Terrace under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was born on December 10, 1922 in Antigo, a daughter of Walter and Anne (Fleischmann) McCann. She married Jack Diercks on January 23, 1947 in Antigo. He preceded her in death on October 18, 1999.

She was Antigo High School’s prom queen in 1939 and graduated in 1940. She then attended secretarial college and later worked as a secretary for Mr. Figgy at the Kraft plant in Antigo. She was a volunteer at Langlade County Memorial Hospital for 20 years and was recognized by the Red Cross as a frequent blood donor. She also tutored students at St. John School.

Family was the most important aspect of her life. She was a proud homemaker who dedicated herself to her husband and raising their six children. She treasured time spent at Bass Lake. Watching her grandchildren swim, putting puzzles together and reading on the porch were priceless times at the lake.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. Bette’s Christian faith was a priority in her life and a constant source of comfort and strength. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet demeanor and an entertaining sense of humor.

She leaves loving memories to be cherished by her six children: Tom (Debbie) Diercks, Antigo; Dan (Gloria) Diercks, Denver, Colorado; Jim (Mary) Diercks, Antigo; Sue (Mark) Braun, St. Francis; Bob (Judy) Diercks, Antigo; Cindi (Rick) Kekula, Merrimac; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two sisters: Shirley Platek, Brookings, South Dakota; and Dorothy Brandt, Antigo; and one brother, Lloyd “Mac” McCann, Antigo.

The funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 20, at 12 noon at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Entombment will take place at Queen of Peace Mausoleum.
Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19, at the Bradley Funeral Home. On Thursday, August 20, visitation will be in Hoffmann Hall at St. John Catholic Church from 11 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to All Saints Catholic School 419 Sixth Ave. Antigo, WI 54409.

The memory of this beautiful mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, will forever bring a smile to the faces of all who knew her.
