Violet E. Walters, 89

Violet Else Walters, age 89, of Antigo died August 21, 2015 in the presence of her family.
She was born May 2, 1926 in Chicago to the late Julius and Lina (Brucker) Welke at their home on California St. in Chicago, IL.
She attended Forest View School in the Town of Vilas for 8 years and then graduated from Antigo High School in 1944.
She married John Walters, Jr. in 1948 in Eagle River. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1980.
Violet worked at Douglas Aircraft, which is now O’Hare Airport during World War II form 1944-1946 pressure testing fuel tanks and as a riveter. She was manager and co-owner of Johnny’s Cab Co. from 1947-1997. She was also manager of Western Union telegraph from 1970-1981. Violet was one of the first female real estate brokers in the Northern Wisconsin, owning Walters Realty for 25 years. She also served on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Taxi Cab Association for 10 years.
Violet enjoyed selling at flea markets, winters in Florida, and was especially endeared to her cats.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne (Thomas) Dahlke of Antigo, granddaughters, Crystal (Wayne) DeBauche of Peoria, IL and Jackelyn (Aaron Paul) Messer of White Lake, great grandchildren, Katherine and Hayden DeBauche and Sabriel and Lirael Messer, a sister Loretta (Ralph) Verpoorten of San Angelo, TX, and a sister-in-law, Gladys Gnat of Wausau.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1:30 PM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home. Reverend Kellen Lewis will officiate. Visitation will be from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.
