WisDOT announces Rustic Roads Photo Contest winners
84 photographers submit 380 photos to celebrate 40th anniversary of Rustic Roads program
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is announcing winners of the recently-concluded Rustic Roads Photo Contest. A total of 84 photographers submitted 380 photos in several categories. The contest celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first Rustic Road being designated. The Rustic Roads program remains one of the state’s most successful and longest-lasting state/local partnerships.
“The many outstanding photos we received are a vivid reminder that our scenic Rustic Roads network remains as popular as ever,” said Jane Carrola, WisDOT’s Scenic Byways and Rustic Roads Coordinator. “We also need to thank all the counties, towns and other local governments who retain jurisdiction of Rustic Roads and keep them well maintained year-round.”
Wisconsin has 117 Rustic Roads spanning 669 miles through 59 counties. The state’s 10-member Rustic Roads Board, which approves new roads, selected the 24 award-winning photos. The contest began in June of 2014 and ended January 15, 2015. Top winners include:
- Vicki Burritt – Onalaska, Wisconsin
- Charlotte Daniels – St. Germain, Wisconsin
- Jan Day – Rewey, Wisconsin
- Sheri Erickson – Wilson, Wisconsin
- Dan Fearing – Reedsburg, Wisconsin
- June Goggins – Waupaca Wisconsin
