November 23, 2015 – White Lake, Wisconsin. The Wolf River Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual community open house on Saturday, December 5. Volunteer firefighters conduct tours of the station, talk about the department’s activities over the past year, and offer winter fire safety tips. The holiday event also features the Firefighters’ Chili Cook-off and tempting holiday treats.

“This has been a very active year for the department,” said Assistant Chief Bill Kallner. “We’re on pace for a record number of calls. We’ve done more joint training with our mutual aid partners White Lake and Town of Langlade Fire Departments, which pays off when we’re working together on the scene of a structure fire or search and rescue operation. We’ve completed our box alarm card planning for MABAS, a wide-area mutual aid system. And we’ve worked on community emergency response preparation. We’re called on to serve the community at motor vehicle accidents, to land medical helicopters, to watch over downed power lines until the power company can get there, and lots of other situations.”

The department also tries to help out the community in other ways. For example, at their upcoming open house, they’ll be collecting canned goods for the local food pantry. And firefighters will help shovel sand for spreading on icy steps for those who bring their own buckets to the open house.

“The open house gives us a chance to visit with our neighbors and thank them for all the ways they support us,” Kallner said. “We just had a structure fire where the community fixed a hot meal to feed the firefighters. We really appreciate things like that, and all the other ways the community steps in to help out.”

The Department’s 2015 open house will be held Saturday, December 5 from noon to 4 pm at the fire station and town hall in Langlade, just south of the intersection of Highways 64 and 55.
