For Antigo Times

Many of Wisconsin’s most accomplished junior high and middle school music students (band, choir and orchestra) performed in Madison on Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) Middle Level State Honors Music Project concerts. Representing Antigo was Simone Lanik.

Throughout the state, 314 students in grades six, seven and eight were selected from over 1,200 who auditioned in April 2015 to participate in the WSMA program. Auditions included individual student performances and an ensemble class, taught by an Honors adjudicator. Selection was based on several elements of music performance.

WSMA State Honors Music Project brings Wisconsin’s finest school musicians together to work with nationally known conductors in a professional setting.

Antigo students participated in the Great Northern Conference Honors Band and Choir Festival held Saturday, Nov. 7 at Medford High School. The top choir and band students were selected from conference schools to form each ensemble. The guest director for the choir was Dr. Axel Theimer from St. Johns University and the guest director for the band was Dr. Peter Haberman from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Antigo students, pictured front from left, are Hayden Groot, Anna Reineke, Lauren Hackbarth, Gabrielle Dodd, Alyssa Peloquin, Alyssa Lucas, Emma Hale, Cera Krueger, and Randy Palmer; back row, Zachary Palmer, Matt Hornbuckle, Kayley Onson, Meghan Bussiere, Madisson Delebeck, Rebecca Stockaus, Kimberly Robertson, and Justin Koszarek.
