David Allen Below, 77

David Allen Below, age 77, died unexpectedly Monday December 21, 2015 at Wausau Aspirus Hospital surrounded by his family as a result of an accident at his home.
David was born on May 11, 1938 to the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Gallion) Below in Antigo.
He graduated from Antigo High School in 1956. On September 14, 1957, David was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Marlene Hansen. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2015.
David served the city of Antigo Fire Department for 28 years retiring in 1990 as Captain of the department. He also owned and operated Dave’s Sheet Metal.
David enjoyed riding horses, especially his horse Rocky. He treasured time at Pelican Lake with his family. He was an outdoorsman, keeping active hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved watching sports especially those that his grandchildren participated in. He was looking forward to the upcoming addition of 2 great grandchildren in the family.
His time and travels with Marlene were also cherished. They enjoyed trips to Hawaii which included visiting volcanoes, parasailing, and swimming as well as trips to Graceland.
Survivors include a daughter, Dawn (David) Brandow of Antigo, three sons, Jeffrey (Mary) of Birnamwood, Douglas (Julia), Greg (Catherine) both of Antigo, 9 grandchildren Zachary (Chelsea) Below, Barbara Jo Below, Beau (Lindsey) Below, Britney (Chad) Bolkema, Blake Below, Cody Below, Danielle Below, Brooke (Tylor) Lewis, Colton Brandow, two brothers Jule Below of Alabama and Charles Below of Antigo.
In addition to his wife and parents, David was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Piskula, Elizabeth “Betsy” Below, his twin sister, Doris Kryka, and a brother, Ken Below.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at noon at Peace Lutheran Church. Reverend David Karolus will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until noon Wednesday at the church.
Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a memorial will be established in his name.
Dave touched the lives of many including his family and their many friends. His kind and gentle heart will always be remembered.
