Frieda Estelle (Voight) Volkmann of Birnamwood passed away December 17, 2015 at Wausau Hospital under the care of Apirus Comfort Care and Hospice. She was 89 years old.

Frieda was born September 25, 1926 in Norfolk, VA, the daughter of the late Paul Emil and Elsie Josephine Voight.

She worked at a drugstore and doctor’s office before marrying the love of her life Ernst Volkmann, Sr. on January 16, 1944. He preceded her in death on January 21, 1999.

After graduation they married and moved to Arlington Heights, IL. In July of 1948 they bought a farm near Birnamwood. They worked the farm until retirement.

Her joys in life were her African violets and orchids. She always had a beautiful yard and garden. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone she knew got to enjoy her baking, especially Christmas cookies, and canning skills and her sense of humor.

She is survived by four children, Paul (Julie) Volkmann of Birnamwood, Linda (Conrad) Fleischman of Antigo, Frieda (Keith) Maertz of Birnamwood, Ernie (Louise) Volkmann of Green Bay, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Elsie (George) Reynolds of Virginia Beach , VA, Thelma Scroxton and Paula (Joe) Hannah both of Norfolk, VA.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Elsie Helms, a brother Paul Voight, Jr, a grandson, a granddaughter, and a great grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday and from 9:30 AM until the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
