George Buchanan, 64

George Buchanan, of White Lake, died Saturday, December 12, 2015 in Waupaca. He was 64 years old. He was born on November 20, 1951 in Antigo, a son of Glenn and Margaret (Kraischer) Buchanan. He married Esper Ramos on June 14, 1991 in the Philippines. She survives.

He graduated from White Lake High School with the class of 1969.

On March 11, 1971 he enlisted in the United States Air Force. George served as a recruiter, student training advisor and administration specialist attaining the rank of Master Sergeant. For most of his military career he was stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippines and from there served other locations in the south Pacific. In 1991 he returned to White Lake and worked as a recruiting supervisor in Wausau covering the area of Northern Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan. He retired from the United States Air Force on March 31, 1995.

Following military service George worked in human resources at Motion Systems in White Lake. He held a similar position at Northland Stainless in Tomahawk for a year. For ten years he worked in the human resource department at Nueskes Meats in Wittenberg retiring in January 2015.

George was a member of Hope Presbyterian Church in White Lake. In his desire to serve the church, he completed course work to allow him to receive his lay Pastor Certification from the Presbyterian Church USA. For the past 20 years he faithfully served the community of Hope Presbyterian Church.

For the past 44 years he was a member of the Anderson-Sather American Legion Post #524 in White Lake. He currently held the position of American Legion State Historian.

He was a Harley Davidson motorcycle owner and a member of the American Legion Riders.

His hobbies included photography and traveling.

Survivors including his wife are a daughter, Jennifer (Billy) Duncan, USAF, stationed in Clovis, New Mexico; two sons, Jim Buchanan of Sacramento, California, Steven (Aroa) Buchanan, USAF, stationed in Rota, Spain; six grandchildren Trevor, Madison and Jimmy Buchanan, Jeremiah, Samantha and Gabriella Duncan; three sisters, Theresa (Larry) Smith of Portland, Oregon, Jeanne (David ) Sill of Boston, MA, Lisa Buchanan of Boston, MA; the mother of his children, Vivian Corley of Milton, Florida; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12 p.m. at Hope Presbyterian Church, White Lake with Rev. Dick Kendall and Rev. Marvin Kindle officiating. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. on Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 11 a.m. until the time of services on Friday at the church.

The Anderson-Sather White Lake American Legion Post will stand honor guard on Thursday from 6-6:45 p.m. at the funeral home and will conduct military rites on Friday following services at the church.
