Roman Menting, 92
Roman Menting, a lifelong Phlox resident died Saturday January 9, 2016 at Evergreen Terrace under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 92 years old. He was born on March 31, 1923 in Phlox a son of Frank and Cecelia (Heinzen) Menting. On August 27, 1949 he married Eileen Schisel at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Phlox. She survives.
He attended St. Joseph parochial school in Phlox and served in the United States Army during WWII from (date of enlistment to date of dischrge).
For 30 years Mr. Menting was employed as a Master Plumber for George Baumgardt Plumbing and Heating in Wausau. He retired in 1988, however continued working on small jobs in the area until he was 87 years old.
He was a member of St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church, the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 434, and the Devine-Menting American Legion Post 525 of Phlox.
He enjoyed walking and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters Julie Donahue, Villa Hills, Kentucky and Karen (Andy) Duff, Antigo; two sons, Duane (Maridel Barr) Menting, Larkspur, California, Joe Menting, Antigo; nine grandchildren, Molly and Joseph Donahue, Sarah Duff, Joshua Menting, Jennifer (Jeremy) Schmitt, Jason (Stefanie) Menting, Alexis and Hannah Menting and Chris Davis; three great-grandchildren Emma, Lily and Payton; two sisters, Sr. Mary Anthony Menting, Merrill and Margaret Menting, Phlox; one brother Matthew (Evelyn) Menting, Phlox; two sisters-in-law, Jane Menting, Phlox and Montel Menting, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Eugene (Karen) Schisel, Iowa, Don Mosher, DePere and sister-in-law, Lorraine Schisel, Antigo.
He was preceded in death by a son Carl; four sisters Caroline (Bill) Watts, Mary (Bill) Ann Bauer, Sr. M. Camilla Menting and a sister in infancy, Elenore; and three brothers, Robert, Harold and Alvin; two brothers-in-law Leonard (Mary) Schisel, Harold Schisel; a sister-in-law Helen Mosher.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 15, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church in Phlox with Rev. Charles Hoffmann and Deacon Tom Hartman officiating. Visitation will be from 3:30 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Bradley Funeral Home and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services. The parish wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Devine-Menting American Legion Post will conduct military rites following the services at the church.
