Antigo Hockey takes home the GNC title, will hit the ice in WIAA tournament

Chalk up a three-peat for the Antigo High School boys’ hockey team.
Coach Matt Borneman’s Red Robin icemen capped an undefeated Great Northern Conference season with a crushing 9-1 victory over Mosinee in the regular season finale and earned their third consecutive league title.
Heading into WIAA tournament competition, Antigo has racked up 20 victories, just three defeats and a tie, including a perfect 14-0 mark in the GNC. The Robins finished three games ahead of Mosinee and Northland Pines, who are both 11-3.
During the last three seasons under Borneman’s leadership, Antigo has compiled an incredible record of 65 wins, eight losses and five draws, including a sensational 40-1-1 mark in the Great Northern.
The Robins are led offensively by conference scoring champion Alex Nagel, Tyler Husnick, Adam Schmidt and Elijah Wickersheim. Nagel has tallied 66 points on 33 goals and 33 assists. Husnick has netted 21 goals and is the assist leader with 36 for 57 points. Schmidt has 43 points (19 goals and 24 assists) and Wickersheim has 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points.
Other top ten scorers include Ben Jansen and Zack Levis with 27 points each, C.J. Levis with 21, Andrew Turunen with 19 and Arin VerHagen with 18.
Antigo goalie Ben Bartletti has a .923 goal save percentage and has recorded eight shutouts.
