Ronald A. Green, Sr., of Deerbrook, died Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 78 years old. He was born on July 9, 1937 in West Allis, a son of the late Fred and Cora (Cuthsforth) Green. He married Audrey Goebel on May 13, 1961 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She survives.
He attended Boys Technical School in Milwaukee and later attained his GED.
Mr. Green enlisted in the Army out of high school and was stationed in Nome, Alaska. Mr. Green enlisted in the Army out of high school and was stationed in Whitter, Alaska. He was promoted to the rank of private first class and served as a supply handler. After returning from the service, he worked as a machinist in the Milwaukee area until the mid-1970’s when he retired and relocated his family to Deerbrook.
He served as a scout master, life member and former commander of the Paul Marmes Disabled American Veterans Chapter 23, the Leland Tollefson Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2653, Antigo and the Monsignor Conrad Saile Council 1002 Knights of Columbus.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed woodworking, selling his work at area craft sales. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, foster parent, and companion to his beloved service dog, Vader.
In addition to his wife survivors include two daughters, Debra (Thomas) Johnson and Victoria (fiancé Tim Tumanic) Green; a son, Ronald (Shelley) Green, Jr.; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charlie (Lois) Green, Fred (Marie) Green, Richard (Marion) Green; three sisters, Lois (Gene) Fegals, Elsie (Robert) Chase and Dorothy Green.
A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, February 27 at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Reverend David Schmidt will lead a prayer service at 1 p.m. The Antigo Veterans will conduct military honors following the service at the Knights of Columbus Hall.
