George “Larry” Charles Konkel, 87

George “Larry” C. Konkel, 87, Galloway, died Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
He was born on March 22, 1928 in the Town of Franzen, the son of the late Leo and Frances (Cherek) Konkel.
On November 26, 1949, Larry was united in marriage to Viola Wendler at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Wausau. Viola always says, “I met Larry, fell in love with him and I married George Charles”.
Larry farmed in the town of Franzen his whole life. He also worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company in Wausau and served on the Board of Directors for Wausau Mutual. He was an avid Green Bay Packers but his true passion farming and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Konkel, Galloway; seven children, Kathryn (Patrik “Doc” Vander Velden) Dahl, Madison, David (Sherri) Konkel, Galloway, Susan (Paul) Buss, Eland, Alice (Duane) Burclaw, Rosholt, Pamela (David) Backes, Birnamwood, William (Sue) Konkel, Galloway and Ralph Konkel, Galloway; 15 grandchildren, Kendall, Michelle, Jeffrey, Rebecca, Sarah, Brandon, Annie, Joey, Angie, Steve, Nick, Ryan, Amanda, Tracey and Ashley; 18 great-grandchildren and one sister, Lenore (Joe) Sprangers, Iola. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by brothers, Daniel (Irene) Konkel, Edwin (Bernadette) Konkel, Lloyd (Bell) Konkel, Benedict (Geraldine) Konkel and Marvin (Betty) Konkel; sisters, Frances Clemens and Lorretta Skalitzky and siblings, Pauline, Helen and Norbert as young children.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, March 11, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway. Fr. Augustine Bentil and Fr. Rex Zimmerman will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4pm until 8pm at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and on Friday from 9am until the time of services at the church. There will be a Rosary Service at 7:30pm on Thursday at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared at schmidtschulta.com.
The family would like to thank the Wittenberg Ambulance, Dr. Amy Sweet and all the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, for their loving care.
