The Antigo girls’ varsity soccer team traveled to Amherst Monday night to battle the Falcons, losing 5-2.

Battling through the heat, the Lady Robins dominated the first 20 minutes of the game with their first shots coming before the 5-minute mark. Captain Jillian Incha and Montana Grabowsky both were able to take early shots at the Falcon’s goalie.

In the 29^th minute of the game, Areonna Schreiber received a beautiful assist from Jess LaBay and was able to get a nice shot into the right side of the net, making the score 1-0 in favor of the Robins.

The Falcons quickly struck back with a goal of their own, sailing into the upper left of the goal. The Lady Robins did not back down and they had a beautiful play. Captain Marissa Hartman passed to the open captain Incha, who saw LaBay open and was able to assist Rebecca Stockhaus in their second goal of the night at the 22–minute mark making the score 2-2 going into the half.

“Coming into the second half, the girls really picked up their tempo and played remarkably well,” Antigo coach Bethany Bauknecht said. “The midfield and attack did their jobs very well, allowing numerous shots on goal.”

The Falcons were able to get a few breakaways that were tipped up and over the Robins’ goalie Annette Olsen within a few minutes of each other making the score 4-2. Maggie Gallenberg later fouled the Falcons’ Mia Wandtke, who then took the direct kick. That shot sailed into the upper right of the goal giving the Falcons their five goals on the night.

The Antigo ladies take on Iron Mountain tonight at Listle Field beginning at 4:30.
