Antigo Police & Langlade Co. Sheriff Reports for 5/30/16
ANTIGO POLICE REPORTS
Monday, May 16th
7:49 PM Officers responded to a call from an area business on Superior Street reporting that a male subject with black hair, wearing a black jacket & ripped up brown boots had been hanging around outside for several hours. Officers sent the male subject, who was homeless, on his way.
Tuesday, May 17th
12:15 AM Officers stopped a vehicle at 5th Avenue and Langlade Road. The female driver was issued a written warning for failure to stop at a stop sign.
6:59 AM Officers responded to a call from the employee of an area business on Superior Street reporting a suspicious male subject inside the business. He was in his 30’s, wearing baggy clothes and talking to himself. Officers talked with the male subject. He was a paying customer. He said that he was waiting for a ride from Wausau. Officers warned the male subject and advised him not to cause any disturbance.
8:07 AM Officers stopped a vehicle at 8th Avenue and Sunset Drive. The driver was issued a citation for speed.
4:59 PM Officers responded to a call from a male subject who reported that he hit a low hanging wire that crossed over the road, while driving his semi on McMillan Street. The wire was now hanging low enough that a car would hit it. Officers determined it was a cable wire. Charter Communications was notified.
5:13 PM Officers responded to a call from an employee of an area business on Neva Road reporting that an employee’s vehicle was vandalized while in the parking lot. The right front tire had the valve stem broken off and the tire was flat. The valve stem was located in the parking lot. There were no witnesses.
7:35 PM Officers responded to a call from a female subject on Virginia Street reporting that two vehicles were blocking her driveway. She did not know which house the vehicle owners were at. Officers issued parking tickets.
Wednesday, May 18th
9:20 AM A female subject came to the Safety Building to report that while she was working at an area business on Hwy. 64, $200-$300 was taken from her purse. Officers are investigating.
10:41 AM Officers received a request from the owner of an area business on 5th Avenue for a parking patrol in the downtown area. He stated that two particular vehicles were parked in front of his business all day long, a blue Ford Focus and an orange car. Officers investigated and issued two parking tickets.
10:53 AM Officers responded to a report that on May 5th or 6th a male subject, who was parked at an area establishment on Western Avenue had the right side of his S10 truck keyed in several places. Officers left a message with the male subject to get more information.
10:54 AM Officers received a call from a male subject reporting that someone put a glass bottle under the tire of his vehicle while it was parked in a lot on Lincoln Street. He was backed in a parking stall and the bottle was placed in front of the tire, which he ran over when he left in the morning. He did not think that the tire was damaged. Someone also put a piece of black tape across his passenger side headlight. This occurred sometime the previous night. The male subject had no suspects, but he has had things done to his vehicle before.
12:35 PM Officers responded to a call from an area business on Neva Road reporting a male customer who did not pay for his gas purchase. The customer called the business three times to indicate that he would be there to pay for it, but he never showed up. The male subject left his driver’s license and social security card. The business wanted the male subject contacted. Officers contacted him, and told him to get the gas paid for.
7:18 PM Officers responded to a two vehicle accident in the parking lot of an area business on Superior Street. Property damage only.
8:43 PM A male subject came to the Safety Building to have an officer listen to a message that was left for him stating that they had papers to serve on him so he should call. Whenever the male subject called the number, there was no answer or answering machine. Officers googled the number and found out that within the last couple of days, numerous people have said that the number called them, claiming to be from different companies. It is a scam.
Thursday, May 19th
7:36 AM Officers stopped a vehicle at 10th Avenue and Sunset Drive. The driver was issued a written warning for speed.
9:11 AM Officers responded to an anonymous call reporting that there were a lot of speeders on Charlotte Court off of Hwy. 64. It has occurred mostly in the morning and evening. The caller thought it may be some of the construction workers working on the new building. Officers were advised. A report was made for an extra patrol.
4:37 PM Officers stopped a vehicle at 6th Avenue and Morse Street. The driver was cited for possession of marijuana.
6:43 PM Officers responded to a call from the manager of an area business on Neva Road reporting that a male subject was there bothering one of the employees. They wanted the male subject removed. The subject left prior to the officer’s arrival. There is an ongoing investigation.
10:37 PM A set of keys on a metal ring was dropped off at the Safety Building. They were found at the ball field on N. Clermont Street.
Friday, May 20th
2:55 PM Officers responded to a report of a white Chrysler van westbound on Hwy. 64 that was weaving all over the road. Officers found the vehicle in the parking lot of an area business on Neva Road. Officers spoke with the male driver. An officer followed the male subject to his residence. The officer observed the male cross the fog line a couple of times and the centerline once. The driver stated to the officer that he knew that he had crossed the centerline.
3:54 PM A male subject came to the Safety Building to report that he saw a maroon truck blow the stop sign at 1st Avenue and Western Avenue, traveling at least 70 mph going northbound. Officers were later able to speak to the young driver and his father. Officers advised him of the dangers and how unsafe it was to run through a stop sign.
5:25 PM Officers responded to a call from a female reporting that a tan colored Chevy truck with a topper, driven by a female, was northbound on Hwy. 45. The female caller passed the truck and the female subject in the Chevy truck flipped her off. The caller then observed the truck crossing the centerline. Officers stopped the vehicle at Watson Street and 10th Avenue. The female driver was cited for operating without a license.
5:47 PM A female subject came to the Safety Building to report that she lost her phone at an area business on S. Superior Street. She called the phone and a young sounding girl named Mary answered the phone. Mary said that she would meet the female subject at Peaceful Valley park but she never showed up. No one answered when she called the phone back.
11:11 PM Officers stopped a vehicle at Superior Street and 6th Avenue. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
Saturday, May 21st
3:44 PM Officers stopped a vehicle at North Avenue and North Superior Street. The driver was issued citations for operating while suspended and not wearing a seatbelt. The passenger was cited for not wearing a seatbelt.
9:13 PM Officers responded to a report of a golden retriever and a medium-sized black dog loose in the 800 block of Artic street, running all over the neighborhood. Officers were unable to catch the dogs.
Sunday, May 22nd
1:18 AM A subject came to the Safety Building to turn in a ring found at 6th Avenue and Morse Street. It was silver, thick, possibly homemade, with “I love u” scratched on the inside.
1:32 AM Officers received a call from a female reporting that a big white Ford truck pulled out from an area business on Edison Street and kept heading south on Edison Street after crossing over 5th Avenue. The caller had to slam on her brakes, causing her to hit her cheek. The female caller did not want medical attention. She just wanted to make officers aware of the trucks driving. Officers were advised.
4:25 AM Officers responded to a report of a male subject lying on the side of the road on Superior Street and 6th Avenue. A vehicle almost hit the person lying in the middle of the road. Officers were unable to wake him at first, so the Antigo Fire Department was paged. The male subject finally woke up and was very intoxicated. He stated that he was heading home. Officers gave him a ride to that location.
7:56 AM Officers responded to a call that a charcoal colored SUV was all over the road. It almost hit the stoplight at the intersection of Hwy. 45 and 64. It was heading westbound on Century Avenue. Officers were unable to locate the vehicle.
10:46 AM Officers responded to a call from an area business on Field Street reporting that a bike had been parked behind the business since the 19th or 20th. It was a black/red Genesis mountain bike. Officers picked up the bike.
1:13 PM Officers responded to a report of a used needle at 7th Avenue and Superior Street. Officers picked up the dirty needle and syringe. Officers placed it in a Sharps container.
LANGLADE COUNTY SHERIFF REPORTS
Wednesday, May 18th
7:47 PM Officers responded to a call from a male on McCloud Road reporting a tan 1999-2000 Chevy Silverado truck with two young males, shooting from the truck. The caller found a shell on the ground. Officers made contact with the male caller who stated that the he was outside and heard a shot fired near the roadway. He saw a truck about 50 yards from his residence. When the two males subjects saw the caller, they took off going north on McCloud Road. The caller thought that they were probably shooting at turkeys. The shotgun shell collected by the caller was a 12ga 3 ½” Remington Nitro Turkey Load. Officers were unable to get fingerprints. Photos were taken of the tire impressions on the gravel road. The information was forwarded to the DNR.
Friday, May 20th
7:18 PM Officers received a call from a male subject on Warg Road reporting an injured bear in his back yard. It appears to have an injured front leg. Officer gave the male subject the phone number for the DNR.
Saturday, May 21st
9:59 AM Officers responded to a call from a female subject on Gravitter Road reporting that they have a house under construction and someone broke into the shed and stole numerous items, tools, etc. Officers received a list of the missing items. It occurred between 6:00 PM last night and 8:00 AM this morning. There was no forced entry. The building was not locked. The female subject notified an area business about some of the items that had been recently purchased at that store, in case someone tried to “return” them. The business said that they would notify her if that occurred.
1:33 PM Officers received two phone calls reporting vehicles heading north through town on State Hwy. 45 with ash firewood in the back. There are restrictions on moving ash wood, due to the Emerald ash borer. The first vehicle was a black Ford truck with Illinois plates. The information was passed on to the DNR hotline.
