For the Antigo Times

The Antigo Lady Robins soccer team landed its second win of the season on Thursday night, knocking off Medford 2-0 after 90 minutes of play.

“The girls came out exceptionally strong and played amazingly well together; passing the ball and communicating beautifully,” Robins coach Bethany Bauknecht said.

Annette Olsen, a sophomore, was in the goal and had to make only 11 saves – her fewest this season. The Robins’ defense played an incredible game and allowed only Medford four shots on goal, also the lowest amount allowed by this defense.

Maggie Gallenberg had a tremendous game, along with senior captain Marissa Hartman, Lili Wagner, and Emily Wald. With the  defense playing such a great game, it allowed the Lady Robins to keep the ball up by the midfield and ultimately allowed Antigo to have 22 shots – another record for the Lady Robins.

Jillian Incha, a senior captain, along with Molly Brown, a junior captain, kept the middle clear and kept on moving the ball up to attack. Kate Stensberg, Montana Grabowsky, Anna Reineke, and Areonna Schreiber played a phenomenal game, each taking their turns at Medford’s goalie.

Incha happened to be in the right spot at just the right time and cleaned up a deflected shot and made the Robins’ first goal of the night in the second half at 61:58. Fired up from that goal, the Robins continued to pressure the already frustrated Medford team and Montana Grabowsky was finally able to get one of her many shots to connect with the back of the net just two minutes later at 63:55.

The Lady Robins fought hard and left everything they had on the field. The girls will now take on Amherst this Monday at 4:30 p.m. on the road.
