For the Antigo Times

The Antigo Lady Robins soccer squad took on the Ashland Oredockers on a dreary, rainy, Tuesday evening in Ashland, falling 6-0 after 90 minutes of play.

The Robins came out with tenacity and did well against a very aggressive passing game by the Oredockers. Antigo’s defense did an amazing job of pushing Ashland out of the 18-yard box and prevented any scoring in the first 10 minutes of play.

Ashland was finally able to get a breakaway and had a beautiful shot right into the corner of the net, making the score 1-0 at the 13-minute mark. The Robins did a very good job of getting the ball up the field only to be shot down quickly by Ashland’s defense.

With 13 minutes left before the half and the rain picking up intensity, Ashland was able to get another goal making the score 2-0 going into the half.

In the second half, Antigo started slow allowing for four quick goals within four minutes. The Robins were finally able to get into their groove and went up well against Ashland’s aggressive attack. With the midfield fired up, it allowed the Robins to finally get some shots on goal.

Marissa Hartman, a senior captain, Molly Brown, a junior captain and junior Kate Stensberg all were able to get some nice shots but none were able to get past Ashland’s goalie. The Robins were able to hold the Oredockers scoreless for the remainder of the 90 minutes.

Sophomore goaltender Annette Olsen had 26 saves in net for Antigo.

The Robins take on Rhinelander at Listle Field on Thursday at 5 p.m.
