The Antigo Lady Robins soccer team showed signs of improvement against the Mosinee Indians on Thursday night. After a 7-0 loss to the Indians earlier this season, the Robins played exceptionally well in last week’s 6-1 road loss.

“They moved the ball around beautifully and were able to keep pace with Mosinee,” head coach Bethany Bauknecht said.

The Indians came away their first goal at the five-minute mark. Mosinee continued to drive the ball towards the Antigo net, scoring two more quick strikes at 14:45 and 20:27 to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.

The Robins kept their heads high and continued to keep up their aggressive play.

“The defense did a great job of pushing up the field and not allowing Mosinee’s attack to be able to get any good shots,” Bauknecht added.

A goal did happen to squeak by Antigo goaltender Annette Olsen at 38:10, giving Mosinee a 4-0 lead going into halftime.

The Lady Robins started the second half strong and paired up well against Mosinee. Molly Brown, a midfielder and captain, along with seniors Areonna Schreiber and Murron Roff, did an amazing job getting the ball up the field for several shots on goal.

Roff had a beautiful assist to Schreiber, who was able to get the ball past Mosinee’s netminder at 52:38, making the score 4-1. Mosinee was able to score two more goals on seemingly indefensible shots before the final buzzer, making it 6-1 after 90 minutes of play.

Olsen had 31 saves in goal for Antigo, a career high for the young Lady Robin.

The Mosinee club showed itself as a class act in the spirit of the Antigo Strong campaign, presenting the Antigo team with flowers before the game and treating the Lady Robins to root beer floats afterwards.

The Robins take on the Ashland Oredockers on Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. in Ashland.
