Lillian L. “Sue” Whittaker, of Pickerel, died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at her daughters home under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 94 years old. She was born on March 14, 1922 in Beaver, Iowa a daughter of the late Harry and Elnora (Powers) Wise. She married Harry Whittaker on February 22, 1944 in Newton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on December 12, 1982.

The couple farmed in Iowa and then moved to Wisconsin and dairy farmed in Lily. In 1956 they purchased Whittaker’s Sandy Beach Resort on Arbutus Lake. They sold the resort in 1966 and built a home on Arbutus Lake. Mrs. Whittaker was a bar tender for several local tavern owners.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Newton, Iowa.

She enjoyed playing cribbage, bowling and the company of her grand-dogs. She also enjoyed making dollar bets with her friend Charlie on football games and NASCAR races.

She is survived by her daughter, Lu Ann (Scott) Torgerson of Pickerel; and a son-in-law, Danny King of Rhinelander.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by three daughters, Pamela King, Jo Ann and Lee Ann Whittaker.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 15 at 3 p.m. at the Bradley Funeral Home with Chaplain David Guerrero officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will take place in Bent Cemetery, Bryant at a later date.

A special thank you to Nancy, Sharon, Shelly, Sue, Diane, Keelin and Chaplain David Guerrero of LeRoyer Hospice and Dr. Patrick McKenna for the wonderful care they provided to Mom.
