Elder Abuse Awareness Day is next week
For the Antigo Times
World Elder Abuse Day is Wednesday, June 15 and advocates for victims of elder abuse in Lincoln, Marathon and Langlade counties are working together to get the word out. The three-county region is coordinating a series of events during the week of Monday, June 13 – Friday, June 17.
In Langlade County, the week will kick off with a proclamation signing on Monday, June 13 at 9 a.m. with Mayor Brandt at AVAIL. AVAIL Senior Outreach Coordinator Roberta Biggerstaff will host a booth at the Antigo Public Library on Wednesday, June 15 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. to provide free information about elder abuse services and prevention. AVAIL will also display a banner on the lawn of the Langlade County Courthouse with 47 pinwheels.
“Each pinwheel represents one of the 47 victims in Langlade County, served by AVAIL or the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Central WI this year” stated Biggerstaff.
AVAIL provides free individual advocacy, crisis counseling, support groups, emergency shelter, and other services as needed to seniors and vulnerable adults.
