Lulu E. Wege, 93, Bowler, died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care Evergreen in Shawano, under the care of Unity Hospice.
She was born on May 5, 1923 in Mattoon, the daughter of the late Harry and Lulu (Matz) Koeppen.
On May 29, 1945, Lulu was united in marriage to John Gottfried Wege in Mattoon. He preceded her in death on February 23, 1995.
Lulu was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler. She taught Vacation Bible School, was on the Altar Guild and was a member of the Homemaker’s Club and Red Hats Society. Lulu volunteered at the Homme Home of Wittenberg for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling and especially dancing.
She is survived by one son, Gary (Sue) Wege, Cottage Grove, MN; son-in-law, Gordon Reynolds, TX; four grandchildren, Todd (Jadine) Gorrell, Ryan (Susan) Gorrell, Karen (Tommy) Fransen and Scott Wege; five great-grandchildren, Krystal Johnson, Peace Gorrell, Gavin Gorrell, Logan Gorrell and Aubrina Fransen and two great-great-grandchildren, Cami and Cody Hawkins. She is also survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lulu is preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Reynolds; five sisters, Alvina Kowalke, Leone Fermanich, Ella Lorenz, Rosella Larsen and Florence Reinert and three brothers, Ernest Koeppen, Elmer Koeppen and Irwin Koeppen.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Bowler. Rev. Todd Jerabek will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Almon, Shawano County. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:30am until 11am at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at schmidtschulta.com.
