Current AHL defenseman Joe Piskula, team captain with the San Diego Gulls, is past the halfway point of his week-long hockey camp in Antigo. With drills and developmental practices, in addition to dry land sessions, the camp encompasses all levels of Antigo youth hockey from mites to high school players.
Matt Borneman, head coach of the Antigo Red Robins varsity team, has the chance to see his team play against two Wisconsin Valley Conference teams through the course of the week, including Wausau West, a team that Borneman and his men defeated last season to claim a sectional championship.
“It went really well,” Borneman said after scrimmaging the Warriors on Tuesday evening. “We competed well [against] good competition. The kids had fun. I think it was everything we were looking for out of a summer scrimmage.”
The Robins square off against Wisconsin Rapids in a scrimmage this evening at 7 p.m. at the Langlade County Multi-Purpose Building.
