Fred Zimmel, of Pearson, died Monday, July 18, 2016 at his daughter’s home under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. He was 97 years old. He was born on January 22, 1919 in Town of Addison, WI a son of the late Alfred and Ella (Christnacht) Zimmel. He married Lucille Hug on August 9, 1945 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nenno, WI. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2009.

He served in the United States Army from October 15, 1940 to June 11, 1945, having served in the South Pacific. He was a member of the 32nd Division, 128th Infantry. He was a drummer in the Army Band.

He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Allenton, St. Mary Catholic Church in Pickerel and the Fohl-Martin American Legion Post 483 in Allenton.

He operated the family Bowling Alley in Allenton for many years. He worked for the West Bend Company as a maintenance worker and electrician for 32 years retiring in 1981. Along with his wife he was a custodian of Addison Town Hall. Fred and Lu lived in the Allenton area until moving to Pickerel in 2006.

After he retired he took pride in doing wiring for people that would ask for his help, fixing televisions and he enjoyed woodworking.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary (Richard) Guenther of Pearson; son, Joel (Kathy) Zimmel of Van Dyne; four grandsons, Richard (Judy) Guenther Jr. of Brandon, Daniel (Denise) Guenther of Jarrettsville, MD, Donald (Sara) Guenther of Oconomowoc, Phillip (Trisha) Zimmel of Lomira; two granddaughters, Melissa (Rocky) Siemers of Elcho, Joeleen Zimmel of Van Dyne; eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Ester Zimmel, Amanda Robbins, Ruth Breunig, Lucille Goeden

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, July 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Pickerel with Rev. Dave Zimmerman officiating. A visitation will be held Monday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of Mass. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Allenton on Tuesday, July 26th at 12 p.m. with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to LeRoyer Hospice.
