George Remington, 73
Clinton “George” Remington, age 73, died Saturday, July 16, 2016 at home surrounded by his family and under the care of LeRoyer Hospice.
George was born in Antigo on November 15, 1942 to the late Clinton and Florence (Strasser) Remington. On February 22, 1969. George was united in marriage to Sylvia Wegner at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Deebrook. George attended Peace Lutheran School and then went on to attend Antigo High School. George then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. He then worked for 30 years as a fireman and engineer on The Chicago Northwestern Railroad and The Union Pacific. George enjoyed trap shooting, pistol shooting, long range shooting, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. He participated in competitive gun shooting shows and was a member of the state shooting team. He also was a private pilot and enjoyed flying. Additionally, he was very interested in military history and also loved animals.
Survivors include his wife Sylvia; 3 sons, George (Heather) of Madison, Frank of Milbank, South Dakota, and John (Kerri) of Antigo; 5 grandchildren, Aspen, Tori, Ann Marie, Penny Lane, and Boone; and 2 sisters, Betty Gardisky of Antigo and Karen (John) Rutt of Weston.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Schroepfer and 2 brothers-in-law, Jim Gardisky and Leon Schroepfer.
A memorial service for George will be held on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 A.M. at Strasser-Roller Funeral Home, officiated by Reverand David Karolus. A visitation will take place from 9:00-11:00 A.M. also on Thursday at the funeral home.
