For the Antigo Times

Have you enjoyed the plays and Readers’ Theaters at the Essenhaus in Wabeno and thought, “I have great ideas; I should write a play.” Well here’s your chance. Dr. Daniel Boatright, the playwright who gave us Falcon Crust, Showdown at the Séance and the Return of Kenny as well as many Reader’s Theater skits of the popular Third Thursday programs, will be teaching a three-day workshop on August 16th -18th culminating with a performance of the participants work at The Big Easel on August 18th for Third Thursday Readers’ Theater. All proceeds will go to the Wabeno Area Players and a portion will be used for the Youth Scholarship Fund for the Arts.

All the basics and nuances of crafting comedy and converting your great ideas into a production ready script will be covered in the agenda.

What will you learn?

  • Finding Your Voice
  • Dialogue Versus Narrative
  • Action Versus Description
  • Beginning, Middle and End
  • Choosing the Topic
  • Learning About Your Characters
  • Building, Developing and Resolving Conflict
  • Let’s Write a Play

Assisting Dr. Boatright will be Gail Blohowiak, an attendee of his earlier workshop, who went on to write Let Them Eat Spam, The Revenge of Spam and The SolWriters Sisterhood in addition to numerous short stories and memoirs. The cost of the workshop is $50 and again, all proceeds will go to the Wabeno Area Players to support their efforts in bringing great entertainment to the area and the growing scholarship fund. Lunch will be offered but is not included in the cost of the workshop. You are encouraged to register soon as seating is limited to the first 20 participants. Simply call Tim Friesen at 715-889-1179.
