Aircraft alone are very interesting, but combined with food, live music, and activities, the Langlade County Airport will be a happening place-to-be next Saturday, September 17 as Walker Aviation hosts the Antigo Fly-In.

Beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until 6 p.m. the fly-in will feature aircraft demonstrations and plane rides available for discounted prices – just $25 per person.

“The rides are available for one to three people, depending on weight. It’s a good opportunity for people to see the fields and the city at a cheaper price than normal,” airport operations manager Cameron Berg said.

Quite possibly the most alluring demonstrations will be the drone showcase. With six different types of drones featured, including the Sandstorm, casual observers will have a chance to witness the cutting edge technology currently being performed by drones for engineering, agricultural, and military tasks.

Berg also said the MEDEVAC helicopter, by way of Wausau, will also be on display. The fly-in at Langlade County Airport marks a new venture for the young airport manager, an Antigo native that returned to his hometown to not only pursue a career in aviation but also in his multi-media endeavors through his company Berg Media. As Antigo had no air show last year, Berg is hopeful for this week’s event.

“It’s expensive to try and have an actual air show in town, but with a fly-in like this hopefully we get some people that want to come. There’s no reservations required – people can just show up and fly in [as they wish],” Berg said.

To add to the festivities, the local talent of Whiskey Nights country band will be performing on site from 2 p.m. until the fly-in wraps up later in the evening. Whiskey Nights is comprised almost exclusively of Antigo-area members, including Cameron’s brother Brandon, and recently played on the main stage at the venerated Hodag Music Festival.

Food will be provided by the Crocker Kids 4-H Club along with cheese curds from the Rural Fire Control. Activities for the youngsters include a bounce house and a flight simulator, along with the first-ever Chalkfest Competition featuring cash prizes for first, second, and third places.

“I just want everyone who comes to the fly-in to have fun, enjoy themselves, and learn a little about aviation,” Berg added.
