Antigo boys soccer opened a busy week of play with a 10-0 loss on the road against Peshtigo last night. The hosting Bulldogs have opened their season with about an even win to loss ratio, where the Robins are still searching for their first win.

Coach Ben Wilhelm opened by saying, “We began really sluggish, and it may have just been that it was a Monday. But, unfortunately, we allowed three goals in the first five minutes before we woke up. Peshtigo wasn’t necessarily remarkable but we weren’t playing our game. That was certain. We’ve played so much better this season, but tonight was not our night.”

Junior Luis Hernandez had the start in net and played through the first half, allowing eight goals and saving 12. Possession was about 60/40 in favor of Peshtigo for the first half, and even so, Antigo was able to put shots on goal. At the half, freshman Brody Bunnell took a turn in net, swapping places and putting Hernandez at forward in Bunnell’s place. Possession seemed to turn more favorably towards the Robins in the second half.

Hernandez led the offensive effort with three shots on goal, followed by Noah Samolinski and Zander Aros tied at two shots, and many others contributing one. Nonetheless, Antigo allowed two more goals, with the last coming at 80 minutes, bringing the score to 10-0 and ending the match early.

The Robins continue their busy week traveling to Minocqua this evening to face the Lakeland Thunderbirds in JV and varsity matches, followed by a day off on Wednesday.
