Edna Fischer, 91, Hatley, died on September 22, 2016, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home.
She was born on April 15, 1925 in the town of Birnamwood, to the late Jacob and Anna (Resch) Matsche.
On December 30, 1946, Edna was united in marriage to Philip Fischer in the town of Birnamwood. He preceded her in death on October 22, 2002.
After vocational school, Edna put her many office skills to work at the Wittenberg Badger Plant, until her marriage to Philip. Together, Edna and Philip raised 5 sons and 3 daughters on a small farm in rural Hatley.
Edna is survived by her eight children, Tom (Linda) Fischer, Hatley, Mike (Sue) Fischer, Hatley, Terry (Marilyn) Fischer, Birnamwood, Josephine (Lloyd) Pingel, Hatley, Charles (Louise) Fischer, Birnamwood, Randy (Lisa) Fischer, Birnamwood, Sandy (Win) Baron, Birnamwood and Debbie (fiancé David Thompson) Fischer, Wausau; 26 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way); many step-grandchildren; and 3 brothers, Norman (Alice) Matsche, Godfrey, IL, Charles (Lila) Matsche, Wausau and Vernon Matsche, Wittenberg.
In addition to her husband and parents, Edna was preceded in death by brothers, Richard and Alvin; and son-in-law, Dennis Clark.
Edna loved nature, music and her family. Her legacy is not best defined by her accomplishments or her challenges, but rather by her ability to love in a thousand little ways. She believed true success in life comes through loving family, God and by kindness to others.
Edna’s life will be celebrated with a Funeral Mass at 11am on Monday, September 26, 2016 at St. Florian’s Parish in Hatley. Fr. Greg Bohren will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 9am until the time of services at the church. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg is assisting the family with arrangements. Memories and condolences may be shared at schmidtschulta.com.
Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of NCHC, Legacies by the Lake and Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services for their love and care.
