Jerome L. King, 74
Jerome L King, of Phlox, died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at home under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. He was 74 years old. He was born on August 12, 1942 a son of Louis and Margaret (Schmidt) King. He married Cora Schilcher on February 27, 1965 at Peace Lutheran Church in Antigo. She survives.
He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1961 and served in the Wisconsin National Guard from 1961 – 1967.
He worked in logging for several years first for his uncle Don Schmidt and later on his own. Jerome was employed at Vulcan Corporation in Antigo for almost 40 years beginning as truck driver, then logger, buying and scaling logs, and retiring as maintenance foreman in 2008.
He volunteered with the Phlox Flames 4-H club as a forestry mentor. He enjoyed the outdoors, woodworking, refinishing antique furniture, hunting, fishing, camping, crewal embroidery, trips to the casino and reading.
Jerome was a family man and valued time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Survivors including his wife are two sons, Don King, Bowler, Gerald (Melissa) King, Aniwa; a daughter, Deborah (Michael) Bauer, Birnamwood; five grandchildren Courtenay (Steve) Vanderloop, Nicholas and Cheyanne King, Justin (Honey Lynn) Rasmussen, Katelyn Rasmussen (fiancee Alex); one great-granddaughter Mackenzie King; four sisters, Margaret (Ronald) Heschke, Iola, Sharon Gibson, Antigo, Carol (Duane) Philipps, Deerbrook, Agnes Van Riper, Antigo; three brothers, Vernon (Linda) King, Antigo, Arthur (Sherry) King, Antigo, Kenneth (Kathy) King, Menomenee, MI; a brother-in-law, Richard Smith, Aniwa; and his dog Bailey.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Valeria Smith and a sister Blanche in infancy; a sister-in-law, Thelma King; three brothers-in-law, Floyd Gibson, Dean Van Riper, and Wilton McGhee.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Holy Family Catholic Church in Phlox with Rev. Charles Hoffmann and Deacon Tom Hartman officiating.
Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
