North Central Region road construction update
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) provides a weekly update on road construction in North Central Wisconsin, which includes: Adams, Green Lake, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Marquette, Menominee, Oneida, Portage, Price, Shawano, Vilas, Waupaca, Waushara, and Wood counties.

Adams County

Location: County E to the railroad crossing (Adams)
Schedule: August 15 to mid-September 2016
Cost: $524,000
Description: Crews will resurface the roadway, install centerline rumble strips, and reconstruct the railroad crossing.

Iron County

Location: Lost Creek Bridge
Schedule: September 6 to late October 2016
Cost: $550,000
Description: Crews will replace the bridge and install new guardrail.

Traffic impacts: Crews will close WIS 47 at the bridge at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6. Motorists will be detoured via US 51 and Vilas County H. The road will remain closed during construction.

Schedule: June 13, 2016 to late October 2016
Cost: $3.6 million
Description: Crews will replace the Bear River Bridge, resurface the roadway, replace 18 culverts, and install centerline rumble strips.

Schedule: August 2 to late October 2016
Cost: $2.65 million
Description: Crews will repair and replace pavement on WIS 29 and the two interchange ramps, resurface the interchange bridges, and reconstruct the median crossovers.

Location: 17th Avenue to 1st Street, WIS 52/Stewart Avenue/WIS 29 interchange ramps
Schedule: June 29, 2016 to late October 2016
Cost: $3.25 million
Description: Crews will resurface and recondition sections of the roadway, replace pavement, and replace traffic signals. Additional improvements include new sections of curb and gutter, sidewalk and storm sewer

Traffic impacts:
- The outside lanes of WIS 52 are closed in each direction between 9th Avenue and 1st Street.
- Lanes are closed on 1st Street, 1st Avenue, 3rd Avenue, and Scott Street to accommodate the work on WIS 52.
- To ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians, parking is restricted along Scott Street from 1st Street to 3rd Street and on 1st Avenue for half a block north of Stewart Avenue.
- Traffic backups and delays will likely occur during peak travel times. To avoid delays, local traffic may want to use an alternate route.
- Crews plan to begin work at the WIS 52/Stewart Avenue/WIS 29 interchange ramp intersection on Monday, September 19.
- The westbound entrance ramp to WIS 29 from WIS 52/Stewart Avenue will be closed and detoured via Stewart Avenue and 72nd Avenue.
- Motorists, west of WIS 52, traveling east on Stewart Avenue will be detoured via WIS 52 and 28th Avenue.
- This stage is expected to last approximately two weeks.
Highway: US 51
Location: Decator Drive to the Lincoln County line
Schedule: July 5, 2016 to late May 2017
Cost: $4.5 million
Description: Crews will resurface the highway and the four County WW ramps to extend the life of the pavement.

Location: Decator Drive to County WW
Schedule: February 29, 2016 to late October 2017
Cost: $6.32 million
Description: Crews will replace the bridge decks on northbound US 51 over Decator Drive and on northbound and southbound US 51 over County WW

Description: Crews will widen and replace bridge decks on WIS 29 bridges over Business 51 and the Wisconsin River.

- Motorists on westbound WIS 29 can expect to encounter single lane closures and a reduced speed limit of 55 MPH until mid-November.
- Crews will periodically close the sidewalk along Business 51, between Everest Drive and West Grand Avenue. One side of the sidewalk will remain open at all times.
Marquette County
Highway: I-39
Location: WIS 23/82 to Edgewood Court
Schedule: March 14, 2016 to May 15, 2017
Cost: $7.2 million
Description: Crews will replace the I-39 southbound bridge and resurface the I-39 northbound bridge over the WIS 23/82 interchange, realign the southbound ramps at the interchange, realign a section of Crossroads Clinic Road, resurface the northbound and southbound I-39 bridges over Fawn Court, and raise the County M and Edgewood court bridges over I-39.

- County M (Elk Road) over I-39 is closed. No detour is posted. The road is scheduled to reopen in late September.
Oneida County
Highway: US 8
Location: US 8/WIS 17 and US 8/County G intersections
Schedule: August 25 to early October 2016
Cost: $424,000
Description: Crews will resurface the intersections and replace traffic signal detector loops.

Location: Bearskin Trail Bridge, Hazelhurst
Schedule: April 11, 2016 to September 7, 2016

Description: Crews will replace the existing bridge to meet current standards.

Location: Rocky Run Road to County Y
Schedule: February 29, 2016 to November 2017
Cost: $10.1 million
Description: Crews will reconstruct US 51, replace culverts, reconstruct intersections, lengthen existing passing lanes, and construct a new bridge over Rocky Run Creek.

Traffic impacts: The northbound and southbound passing lanes between Rocky Run Road and South Blue Lake Road are closed. US 51 remains open to one lane of traffic in each direction.
Portage County
Highway: WIS 54 (*updated*)
Location: WIS 54/Wood and Portage County U intersection
Schedule: June 10 to September 1, 2016
Cost: $1.5 million
Description: Crews will reconstruct the intersection as a J-turn to improve safety.

Highway: I-39
Location: WIS 66/Stanley Street (Stevens Point) to the Little Plover River (Plover)
Schedule: April 4, 2016 to late October 2016
Cost: $1.5 million
Description: Crews will resurface the northbound and southbound bridges on I-39 over WIS 66/Stanley Street, over the railroad, and over the Little Plover River.

Traffic impacts: Beginning September 7, motorists on northbound I-39 can expect to encounter single lane closures, a reduced speed limit of 55 MPH, and a reduced lane width of 13 feet between County B and County HH.
Highway: Business 51 (Post Road), Plover (*updated*)
Location: Green Drive to Springville Drive
Schedule: March 7, 2016 to late November 2016
Cost: $8.65 million
Description: Crews will convert the existing, undivided four-lane roadway to a divided four-lane roadway with wider lanes, a raised median, and designated turn lanes. Work also includes constructing new sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and providing new street lighting.

Schedule: August 15 to late October 2016
Cost: $2.7 million
Description: Crews will resurface the ramps and roadways at the interchanges and apply anti-skid treatment to the bridges over WIS 29.

- Reduced lane width of 11 feet on the WIS 47 north overpass.
- September 6 to 8: Turn lane closures on the US 45 north/WIS 29 ramps
- September 12 to 14: Flagging operations on the WIS 29/47 south ramps and single lane closures on WIS 29 at the interchange.
- September 12 to early October: Reduced lane width of 12 feet on the US 45 north overpass.
Highway: WIS 47 (Airport Drive)
Location: WIS 29 to WIS 22 (Green Bay Street), Shawano
Schedule: August 1 to late October 2016
Cost: $2.6 million
Description: Crews will reconstruct WIS 47 as a two-lane road between County B and WIS 22. Crews will also resurface sections of the roadway, improve intersections, and reconstruct the railroad crossing.

Description: Crews will replace pavement, construct a new local road system, remove railroad crossings, reconstruct and realign intersections, and construct a pedestrian underpass.

Traffic impacts:
- County P is closed between EZ-Avenue and North Road. No posted detour. The road is scheduled to reopen in late-September.
- The new local road system is open to traffic.
Motorists are reminded to drive with caution in the work zone and should be prepared to encounter slow moving trucks. Motorists should slow down, use caution and stay alert when driving through construction zones. To avoid delays, consider taking an alternative route and avoid peak travel periods.
Construction-related traffic impacts are subject to change and are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction status.
