Roman Donald Stienfest, 92
Roman Donald Stienfest, longtime Antigo resident, died Monday, September 19, 2016 at Homme Home of Wittenberg. He was 92 years old.
He was born October 3, 1923 in Bryant, son of the late Charles and Clara (Clark) Stienfest. In 1945, he married Maxine Krueger in Antigo, and she survives.
Mr. Stienfest graduated from Antigo High School in 1941. He was in the US Air Force, and served with the occupation forces in Okinawa, Japan. Prior to his retirement, he was co-owner of Krueger and Stienfest Excavating and Trucking.
He enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter. He especially enjoyed bear and coyote hunting with his dogs and all his buddies. Some of his happiest times were spent with his family and friends at his cabin along the Wolf River in Pearson where the welcome sign was always out.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Deborah (Dr. James) Moermond of Antigo; 2 grandchildren, Jade and Jonas Moermond; 3 great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tessa, and Taylor Moermond; the 3 nephews that completed his household family, Neal (Patricia) Gray of Antigo, Ken (Patricia) Gray of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Terry (Carol) Gray of Waukesha and their children, Todd, Troy, Tiffany, Bryan, Dana, Travers and Trevor Gray; 4 sisters, Ermalee Gray of Hartford, Gladys (Jim) Christie of California, Ardis of Wyoming, and Veryl Olson of California; a brother, Ken Stienfest of Kempster; and many additional nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Katherine Schmiege, and Geraldine Schneider; and a brother, Darrel Stienfest.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Polar, with Rev. Donald Engebretson officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church or Langlade County Humane Society.
Inurnment will follow the service at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery. Military honors performed by local veterans will take place at the graveside.
