For the Antigo Times

Tuesday night the Robin boys soccer team returned to action with an away match at Clintonville. After a long weekend, the Robins started a little rusty, giving up five goals in the first half and only answering with about six shots on goal. Antigo senior Tyler Husnick led the offense with aggressive play and five shots, helped by junior Zach Reineke and freshman Brody Bunnell. And Antigo junior Luis Hernandez again played keeper for the varsity squad, allowing 5 and saving 10.

Varsity coach Ben Wilhelm noted, “After a long weekend, we were glad to get back into action and return some of our regulars to play after resting sore and injured legs. And we were looking forward to meeting Clintonville again, after playing previously them two weeks ago. Unfortunately the weather today was unpredictable and we were only able to get in one half of play.”

With lightning spotted and no clearing in the weather predicted, the match was called at half.

“We were pretty disappointed to not be able to play on as we were expecting a better second half and were hopeful to get on the scoreboard. Still, I wasn’t terribly disappointed in our first half play either. We had a few close moments while driving up the field and felt pretty equally matched. And our goals allowed only came off of one on one situations where the rest of our defense was holding all our other opponents at bay,” Wilhelm added.

Antigo’s JV squad would finish with a slightly better result closing their single half of play only down 4-2, with both Antigo goals coming from freshman Zander Aros.
