An eerie YouTube video entitled “Hi Walter! It’s Me Patrick!” resurfaced earlier this week after having previously been posted to the site in October of 2009. The video depicted a man describing his “new girlfriend” in awkward terms and hurried speech, and then later cut to a basement cellar in which the man opened the door to reveal a woman bound on the floor, crying and asking why he was doing this.

Many investigators made connections between the young woman in the video and Kayla Berg, an Antigo girl that has been missing since 2009 when she was then 15 years old. While similarities existed between the last-known descriptions of Berg and the actress in the online video, the Antigo Police Department verified on Tuesday night that the girl was in fact not Berg and that the contents of the video were proven false.

“The Antigo Police Department was able to make contact with the producer of the short clip and the two actors in the video,” Chief of Police Eric Roller said. “We determined that they produced the video as a series of videos and posted this one in October 2011. They did not intend to depict any reference to our missing Kayla Berg.”

The video was removed from YouTube on Tuesday afternoon, but oddly was dated as having been posted in October 2009, just two months after the disappearance of Berg in Wausau. Between the close timeframe of the disappearance and the production date of the video and the actress wearing nearly the same clothes that Berg was reportedly seen in before the disappearance led many to believe the video did in fact contain clues.

After proving that the clip was “a fake video and did not relate to an actual abduction or any illegal activity,” the APD is dedicated to pursuing the investigation into the still-missing Berg.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with the family and friends of Kayla as they have endured many different emotions over the last few days as we investigated the source of the video. We appreciate all the cooperation we received from the media and outside sources that assisted us in determining the video origin,” Chief Roller added.
