Robert “Shorty” Steebs, 91
Robert ‘Shorty’ Steebs, 91, Eland, died on Monday, November 28, 2016 at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, in Wittenberg, under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice.
He was born on April 2, 1925 in Hatley, the son of the late Robert and Carrie (Peterson) Steebs.
On January 9, 1952, Shorty was united in marriage to Alice Wolfinger in Birnamwood. She preceded him in death on September 14, 2012.
Shorty worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad for over 34 years until his retirement. He enjoyed going out to eat and socializing at local restaurants. He especially enjoyed his Friday fish fries. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Eland. An avid outdoorsman, Shorty enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, golfing and camping. He also enjoyed the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.
Survivors include six children, Paula (Robert) Bassuener, Port Edwards, Bob (LuAnne) Steebs and Tom (Linda) Steebs, both of Wittenberg, Jim (Jan) Steebs, Eland, Bill (Lisa) Steebs, Wittenberg and Ron (Rachel) Steebs, Eland; 15 grandchildren, Luke (Audre) Bassuener, Scott (Stephanie) Bassuener, Matthew (Paulinha) Bassuener and Michael Bassuener, Kayla Steebs, Andrea (Rob) Schultz, Mitchell (Dana) Steebs, Vaughn (Raechal) Steebs, Sam (Tanya) Steebs, Josh (Pam) Falkowski and Jordan Falkowski, Erin Steebs, Ted Steebs, Shannon (Matt) Becker and Lily Becker; six great-grandchildren, Parker, Emelia and Charlotte Bassuener, Rianna and Trevor Schultz and Keane Steebs; siblings-in-law, Douglas Elsner, Dorothy Yaeger, Joyce Sharon, Kay and Dave Norrbom and many nieces and nephews.
Shorty was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings, Herman (Keta) Steebs, Ruth (Louis) Berkowitz, Dorothy (Tink) Collier and Mildred Elsner.
The funeral service will be held at 11AM on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, Eland. Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Wittenberg. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg and again on Friday from 9:30am until the time of service at the church.
