After a tough, 4-2 loss last week at the K.B. Willett Arena to the Stevens Point Panthers, the Antigo Red Robins hockey team won two in a row against quality opponents in New Richmond 3-2 on Friday and Superior 1-0 on Saturday this past weekend.
Against New Richmond, Isaac Wickersheim scored first for the Robins at the 4:58 mark of the first period, Antigo’s only score until the third period. New Richmond scored a goal in each of the first and second periods, taking a 2-1 lead into the final frame.
Sophomore forward CJ Levis notched two goals, at the 7:45 and 12:12 marks of the third, to give Antigo the 3-2 win over the Tigers. The Robins outshot the Tigers 29-20 as Ben Bartletti picked up 18 saves on the night.
Moving into Saturday, despite being outshot by the Spartans 31-13, the Robins picked up their third win of the season (3-1 now) thanks to Wickersheim’s lone second period goal assisted by Tyler Husnick. Bartletti has recorded a .932 save percentage (6th in the state) and 1.37 goals allowed average (4th) in four games this year.
Husnick leads the team in points this season with 10, all stemming from assists – making the senior forward tops in the state of Wisconsin in the assists category.
Antigo deservingly has a home contest after a four-game road stint to begin the season. The Robins take on the Waupaca Comets on Tuesday evening from the Langlade County Multi-Purpose Building at 7 p.m. After tomorrow’s game, Antigo returns to the road for another five games before returning to home ice on Dec. 29 against Bay Port.
