Dennis R. Johnson, 89
Dennis R. Johnson, of Summit Lake, died Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was 89 years old. He was born on July 13, 1927 in South Milwaukee, a son of the late Joseph and Ann (Peka) Johnson. He married Georgia Brodowski on April 6, 1956. She survives.
Mr. Johnson was a Korean War veteran having served in the United States Army, 72nd Armored Division Medium Tank and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He was employed at Line Material/McGraw Edison in South Milwaukee and Vilter Manufacturing in Milwaukee, retiring in May of 1991.
After summering in Summit Lake for many years it became his permanent residence in April of 2016.
He was a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post 377, Elcho and the Milwaukee Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He enjoyed gardening, wood working, bee keeping, fishing/hunting and wine making.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Dave Johnson of Summit Lake; a daughter, Lisa (William) Blau of Seattle, WA; four grandchildren, Nigel and Axl Johnson, Sydney and Ella Blau; two great-grandchildren, Lillian and Lucian Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wayne Johnson.
A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, Elcho with Rev. Dave Zimmerman officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, February 25 at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Immediately following the services, burial of ashes will take place at his home in Summit Lake, where Elcho Veterans will conduct Military Honors.
