NTC Wins People’s Choice Award in Thrivent Financial “Cans” Hunger Competition
For the Antigo Times
Northcentral Technical College’s (NTC) Antigo Campus recently earned the People’s Choice Award in the Thrivent Financial “Cans” Hunger competition. The event pits area businesses and organizations against one another in creating sculptures made out of canned goods. All items are donated to the Antigo Community Food Pantry at the conclusion of the competition.
The People’s Choice award was based on the can structure that received the most votes from the general public over the span of a week, and NTC’s “Pop’s Out Hunger” sculpture, designed to represent a box of popcorn, took home the prize. Over 1,000 cans were donated by NTC student clubs and staff for the competition, and the sculpture itself was created by staff members Larry Poltrock, Nancy Resch and Zach Popp.
It was a record-breaking year for the event overall, which brought in 13,380 pounds of canned items for those in need.
