The No. 8 ranked Antigo hockey team improved to 6-1 on Thursday night with a 6-0 win over Lakeland on the road. The win is the second of a four-game road stint which sees the Robins travel this evening to Neenah – a game that despite the weather is the only AHS activity still on schedule for the next two, snowy days.
Adam Schmidt picked up four points, scoring the first two goals of the first period and assisting on two later scores. Tyler Husnick continues his productive season in the assist category with three on the night.
Husnick is tops in the state now in assists with 20 on the season, five more than those tied for second place (Jack Gorniak of West Salem and Tyler Jensen of Beloit Memorial).
Younger players contributed well against the Thunderbirds as Isaac Wickersheim, Noah Kubacki, Frank Volpentesta, and Collin Meinert scored the remainder of the goals for the Robins.
Wickersheim, a freshman, is tied for fourth on the team in total points this year with Jack Shinners with five apiece.
Freshman goaltender Brody Bunnell got the nod from Coach Matt Borneman and his staff, playing the entire 51 minutes and earning himself a shutout after making six saves against Lakeland. Thunderbird netminder Nathan Pitek recorded 42 saves on the night against Antigo.
As mentioned, Friday’s game against Neenah-Hortonville-Menasha (at the Tri-County Arena in Neenah) is still set for 6 PM with only the varsity team playing this evening. Saturday’s game at Fond du Lac Springs (1 PM) is still on as of Friday afternoon.
