Antigo hockey completed a three-game road series on Thursday evening with a 4-0 shutout of the Waupaca Comets, giving the Red Robins 2-1 record in that very stretch of away contests.

CJ Levis netted his 12th goal of the season in the first period against Waupaca, scoring unassisted at just a minute and 33 seconds into the game.

Second period goals belonged Andrew Turunen and Adam Schmidt, while Tyler Husnick capped the evening with a third period goal at the 5:36 mark of the final frame. Turunen, Husnick, and Levis each finished their evenings with a goal and an assist apiece.

The Robins overpowered the Comets offensively, outshooting Waupaca 40-14 as Antigo’s senior netminder Ben Bartletti recorded his third shutout of the 2016-17 season.

Thursday’s win also marks the beginning of an almost total homecoming for the Robins, who play six of their remaining eight games of the regular season at the Langlade County Multi-Purpose Building. Antigo enters the almost literal “home” stretch of the year now 11-5 on the season.

“We have been on the road so much this year that it is good for the team to not have multiple late nights in one week,” Coach Matt Borneman said on Friday. “Playing at home has many advantages and we are excited about each one moving forward.”

The last third of the season begins after a week-long break for the Robins, where the team will host Somerset on Friday, Jan. 20 at 7 PM and Chippewa Falls on Jan. 21 at 5 PM.
