Dolores Hallisy, 84
Dolores A. “Dodie” Hallisy, formerly of Antigo, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017. She passed peacefully at her daughter’s home in Monona, WI within the embrace of her girls. Dodie was 84 years old. She was born on June 8, 1932 in Grand Rapids, Mich, a daughter of the late Delford Johnson and Kathleen (Fisher) Bourgoin. Dodie was raised in Detroit, Mich. and graduated from St. Leo’s High School in 1950.
She married Raymond Hallisy Jr. of Manitowoc, on June 9, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hancock, Mich. They settled in Antigo in 1964 and raised their three children (Mark, Stevi and Kristi) and later their granddaughter (Dana). The Hallisys were active members of St. John Catholic Church in Antigo. Dodie served in the Parent-Teacher Association, taught Children’s Christian Doctrine, led adult bible/praise groups and was a Eucharist minister.
She was employed by the Antigo Unified School District and was a well-loved study hall supervisor in the Junior High from 1971 until her retirement in 1999. She also briefly served as a bailiff at the Langlade County Courthouse.
Dodie was well known for her sense of humor and ability to entertain. She was a steadfast groupie of any band Mark played in and an avid fan at her daughters’ and Ray’s sporting events. Dodie was a veracious reader, enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, funny movies and music (Proud Mary Keep on Rolling). In her retirement years, she was a champion Jeopardy player at Reif’s Bar.
In the time of life when Dodie ‘lived in the moment,’ she enjoyed time with family and friends. GG’s (Great Grandma) activities included watching the mischievous antics of her great grandsons, dogs playing in the yard, and sunsets and fireworks on Lake Monona. Family pontoon rides, BBQs and brews, trips to the zoo, theater and musical events were also highlights.
Dodie is survived by a sister, Anne (Mike) Van Dreumel of Grand Rapids, Mich; two daughters, Stephanie Hallisy of Rochester, Minn. and Kristine Hallisy of Monona; a granddaughter, Dana (Mike) Habeck and two great-grandsons, Jalen and Blaise Habeck of Appleton.
She was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Shelly; son, Mark; husband, Ray; daughter-in-law, Vickie Hallisy; and step father, Earl Bourgoin.
A memorial Mass will be held on May 13, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Antigo with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating.
A celebration of life will be held in Monona, on June 24, 2017. Please contact the family directly for details.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations to an Alzheimer’s or dementia association of your choice.
The family would like to thank Agrace Hospice of Madison, for their compassionate help and care. Special blessings to Loretta who helped the girls when Dodie jumped on that Sweet Chariot as it swung low to the earth.
